Are Animal Products Harmful to Human Health? What the Science Says with Alan Flanagan

It was my absolute pleasure to host Alan Flanagan (@thenutritional_advocate) for a deep dive into the science on animal products and human health outcomes. 

Generally, and understandably, people have a hard time separating the moral and ethical implications of meat consumption from the objective assessment of the evidence on human health effects. 

While not meant to sway you back to eating animal products if you are currently vegan, plant predominant, or reducing, this episode is instead aimed to encourage more nuanced thought when it comes to how we approach nutritional science.

We cover:

  • How are we reading science wrong?
  • Should we discount observational studies?
  • What does the science say on red meat?
  • What about chicken? Is is the “healthy” option?
  • Don’t drink milk from another animal? And will it cause cancer?
  • Dairy, acne and asthma.

  • Does protein and leucine increase cancer risk?
  • What dietary pattern is best for human health?
